Awesome Dog Facts You May Not Know



How well do you know mans best friend? Did you know these 10 facts about your pet pooch? Here's 10 really interesting facts you should know about your dog.

  1. Did you know, the oldest dog in the world lived to be 29 years old. He was an Australian cattle dog named bluey. He lived from 7th June 1910 to the 14th November 1939.
  2. A dogs nose print is as unique as a human fingerprint.

  3. It is actually a myth that dogs are colour blind, believe it or not they can see in colour however not as vividly as humans are able to. Red is an example of a colour that dogs cannot see. 
  4. Did you know that dog's shoulder blades are unattached to the rest of the skeleton, this allows for a greater freedom of movement.
  5. It’s thought that dogs can understand around 150 to 200 words, this includes hand signals meaning dogs can be as smart as a 2 to 3 year old child.
  6. Dogs have the ability to learn Sign Language.
  7. Dogs can be prone to food intolerances as they can be sensitive to certain ingredients. Food intolerance can lead to problems such as, tummy troubles, itchy skin and bad smells. So it's paramount that they're fed a good quality hypo-allergenic dog food.  
  8. Dalmatians are completely white at birth, and develop spots on their fur and skin as they age,they can even develop patches in their mouth. 
  9. Dogs can dream, just like humans dogs can dream, similar to humans dogs have REM and SWS stages of sleep.
  10. Your friendly K9 can smell illness. If you get cancer, diabetes, or epilepsy for example, your dog is likely to be the first to know. Many studies have shown that your dog can detect the extraordinary minute changes in your personal cent.
